Martin Codd Obituary

Martin James Codd, 80, of Wilmington, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The son of Irish immigrants, he was born September 16, 1926, in Staten Island, NY, son of the late William Codd and Katie McLoughlin Codd.
Martin married the former Mary Theresa Mahoney on November 4, 1950, and she has been the love of his life and center of his universe ever since.
His family meant the world to him. Together they were the proud parents of eight children, Melinda Muller and husband Christopher, Martin Codd and wife Harriet, Mary Kate Davidson and husband Robert, Therese Mundo and husband Frank, John Codd, Anne Marie Thompson and husband David, Peter Codd and wife Jeanne, and Billy Codd and wife Maureen; twenty-four grandchildren, Deirdre, Marty, Sean, Bobby, Liam, Kate, Lizzi, Peter Frank, Elizabeth, Peter Michael, Meghan, David, Michael, Fiona, Scott, Ashley, Chelsea, Mary Alice, Mackenzie, Daniel, Caroline, Grace, William, and Brendan; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Henry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alice and Howie Parker, Joan and Artie Jacobson; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin was a retired tugboat captain and New York Harbor Pilot and moved to Wilmington in 1992. Martin was full of life and loved by everyone who knew him. He had an opinion on everything, loved partying, discussing the issues, writing letters to the editor, keeping up with politics and playing golf. He was very outspoken about his beliefs, including world peace, social justice and respect of the common man and "woman." He was extremely devoted to his family and will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Andrews Valley Chapel with a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com.

Dearest Marty ...

Oh, how we shall miss you ... this fine man; this loving family man ... this kind man.

We are so grateful for the time we were privileged to spend with you; a gift to Michael and I; we shall cherish this gift as all who had the pleasure of knowing you, will.

You will be sorely missed by us and everyone whose life you touched and changed.

We will take comfort in knowing that you are now bringing joy to those above ... as you did to everyone, here ...

With our deepest sympathy and gratitude, may you rest in peace.

We shall keep you in our prayers.

Love,
Kathy and Michael Oles
