Arden E. Grudem

Grudem, Arden E. age 95, of Longwood, FL, died peacefully on December 18. He was a World War II army officer, creamery executive, faithful husband, loving and wise father, and generous helper of those in need. He believed in and exemplified honesty, integrity, fairness, generosity, hard work, and regular tithing of 10% of what he earned. He loved to golf and fish, and especially to go fishing with his grandchildren. Though he only had opportunity to attend two years of college himself, he believed that education was a key to earning capacity and therefore generously provided advanced educational opportunities for all his children and grandchildren. He had a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ and in the truth of the Bible. He was born May 1, 1917, in Watertown, SD. He moved to Minneapolis in 1928 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1932. He enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged as a captain in 1943, due to severe asthma. He took pre-med courses at Evansville College in Indiana and the University of Louisville, KY, for two years, then withdrew to help his older brother start a creamery in Wisconsin. He married Jean Sheady in 1947. They lived in Jim Falls, WI (1947-1961); Eau Claire, WI (1961-1989); Haugen, WI (1989-2003); and Winter Park and Longwood, FL (1983-2012). He was secretary-treasurer and part owner of the Falls Dairy Company in Jim Falls, Wisconsin, until the company was sold in 1969. He was a past president of the Wisconsin State Board of Agriculture and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for lifelong service to the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by three sons, Wayne (Margaret) of Scottsdale, AZ, Gregg (Kay) of Haugen, WI, and Brian (Kim) of Blaine, MN; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister Aimee Arline Deardorff (Herold), of Sun City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his brothers Irvin, Vern, and Myhrin, and his sister Carol Hanson. Visitation Sunday (1-6-13) 2-4 PM & 1 hr. prior to the service on Monday (1-7-13), 10 AM, both at Albin Chapel, 6855 Rowland Rd, Eden Prairie, MN. Interment, Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
