Kent Haaven Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2011.
Haaven, Kent J. 81, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on July 30, 2011. Kent was born in Crookston, MN, on March 18, 1930 to Ira and Lois Haaven. Growing up he spent a lot of time on the family farm in McIntosh, MN and later worked at the States Theater and Ballroom in East Grand Forks, which his parents owned. After graduating from East Grand Forks Central in 1948, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 where he spent most of the next four years in Germany. His greatest joy outside of his family was staying in touch with the many friends he made during his service with the 2nd RSM and 6910th Darmstadt to Augsburg group. After his military service, he attended the Minneapolis Institute of Art studying Commercial Art, and then spent the rest of his life creating images and artwork for his clients, family and friends. It is his legacy of art, poetry and patriotism, for which he'll always be remembered. Kent is survived by his daughter, Jerri (Alan) Pearlman of Chandler, AZ and sons Jay (Bobbie) of Phoenix, AZ and Jon, also of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Josh (Leslie), Noah (Shawna) and Jessy, and two great-grandchildren, Treyten and Kenadie. Survivors also include his brother Jon (Bonnie) of Alexandria, MN and sister, Doris Engel of Minneapolis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel in Minneapolis on Friday, August 19, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Committal Service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kent's memory to: Sun Valley Hospice, 7227 E. Baseline Rd., Suite 129, Mesa, AZ 85209.

Jeri, your Dad is still missed by the 2ndRSM troops that served with him in Germany. We will never forget all he did to make our Return Trip to Germany in 2001. We were a group of 18 Old timers from 49-52 that returned to Darmstadt Germany for a 50th Anniversary reunion. We still talk about all the work he did for us. RIP Kent

Kent arrived in Darmstadt as I was departing. Never had a chance to work with him but have seen many of his contributions to the Darmstadt - Augsburg link. We will all miss his verbal and artistic genius. Condolences to the Haaven family.

As an Air Force brother, I just wanted to add my condolences to the guest book. While Kent and I never actually met, we knew each other through a web site reserved for former veterans. The work Kent did in the Air Force contributed immeasurably to the United States prevailing in the Cold War. Rest in Peace, my brother.

The Rose Beyond The Wall
A rose once grew where all could see,
sheltered beside a garden wall,
...And as the days passed swiftly by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall...
...
One day, a beam of light shone through
a crevice that had opened wide
The rose bent gently toward its warmth
then passed beyond to the other side

Now, you who deeply feel its loss,
be comforted - the rose blooms there-
its beauty even greater now, nurtured by
God's own loving care.

You are in our thoughts and prayers,
Greg and Kathy Goodwin

Jerri, I have such fond memories of your Dad....soft spoken, guitar playing, creative spirit, supportive Dad! The Depot - his office - his space that he "allowed" us to make memories in....I ALWAYS felt part of your family..his family. Kent (Mr. Haaven as I called him then), took time to talk to me and listened to what I had to say....I am so sorry for your loss, your families loss. Your Dad will live in the hearts of those that loved him, and those that he loved, his creative spirt lives on in the magic he put on paper....sending you strength....
