Virgene F. "Jean" Steiner

Steiner, Virgene F. "Jean" 86, died peacefully at her home in Roseville, surrounded by loving family on October 14, 2010; survived by Matt Steiner her loving husband of 68 years, brother Mike Dooley, children Mary Steiner (Minneapolis), John Steiner and daughter-in-law Heather Pinto (California), Mark Steiner and daughter-in-law JoAnn Steiner (Oakdale), grandchildren Kevin, Sarah and Shawn Whelan, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jean Steiner served as Public Information Officer for the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1973-1989 where she created the "Session Weekly" magazine and the House's State Fair exhibit. After retirement, she edited the book Minnesota Times and Tastes, co-authored For the Love of Children and This Year I Sing and worked as a freelance writer and communications consultant. Earlier she directed PR/Education for the Minnesota Medical Association and operated a family child care home. Jean received a B.A. from Metro State University and completed an M.A. and other post-graduate studies at Vermont College. She served as adjunct faculty at Metropolitan State University and St. Thomas College. Jean received awards for civic involvement with organizations including the Minnesota Women's Consortium. Funeral services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church, 2048 Hamline Ave N, Roseville on Tues., Oct. 19. Visitation 9:00 a.m., Mass 10:00 am, luncheon to follow. entombment at 1:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Give Us Wings, 450 N.
