Victor Fridlund Obituary

Fridlund, Victor Jr. "Vic" and "Papa" age 92, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at Mt. Olivet Careview Home. Victor was a lifelong resident of Minneapolis and Edina. He was born in 1914 in SW Minneapolis in a home built by his father. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1932. At a young age, he become involved in the family home building business. He served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the Persian Gulf Command. In the late 1930's, he and his father built a home in the open lands of Edina. In 1946, he married his wife Melinda and they moved into the Edina house. They were married 58 years and raised three children there. He lived there until his move to Mt. Olivet Home in 2004. His whole career was devoted to home building and remodeling. He was a master carpenter late into his life and built many homes in the metro area. The business continues today into the third generation. He was a member of Colonial Church of Edina since 1949 and was active in the formation of that church. He was on the YMCA Camp Menogyn Board for 15 years and was active in the Camp's Building Committee. He was a craftsman, loved out door gardening, trees, bird watching, Minnesota sports teams, baseball caps and dogs. We will miss his witty sense of humor, his wisdom, his caring for others and his humble ways. He taught us to appreciate our natural world. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda; brother, Harold; and sister, Mildred. Survived by his children and their spouses, Wayne (Jane Pollard-Fridlund) Fridlund, Lyle (Chris) Fridlund and Vicky (Bruce) Wingert; grandchildren, Nicole, Anna, Molly, Mark, Brock, Chet, Genevieve, Emily and Anthony; great grandchildren, Miranda, Leigh, Paige, Devon, Carter, Harleigh, Wynter, Ryan and Kayla. Service Friday, October 27, 11:00 AM at Colonial Church of Edina, 6201 Colonial Way, Edina. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, October 26, from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Morris Nilsen Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. S., Richfield and one hour prior to the service at church.
