Mr. Roy Everett Chester

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Mr. Roy E. Chester, age 70, died April 17, 2014, at his residence following a brief illness. Roy was born October 3, 1943, the son of the late James Gordon and Lila Hendrix Chester.
Roy graduated from Portal High School and then entered the U.S. Army where he served two years. Following his military service, Roy worked with J.P. Stevens Company in Statesboro and later transferred to the Sylvania Yarn Plant where he worked until his retirement.
Mr. Chester was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sylvania, Sylvania Shrine Club, Ararat Shrine Temple in Savannah and the Army National Guard.
Surviving are his wife Linda S. Chester of Lexington, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele Chester Humphries and Michael Humphries of Statesboro; two grandsons, Jarret and Dylan Humphries of Statesboro; two step children, Kathy Flakes and Matt Stone; four step grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Betty Chester of Statesboro and Martha Chester of Albany.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Inurnment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC, 29605.
