Mr. Cam Quick, age 85, died on Saturday, December 1st, 2018, at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility.
He was born in Burke County, Georgia, on October 17th, 1933, to Mr. Bracton Quick and Mrs. Lurie Harelson Quick and attended school in Bulloch County.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1952, starting at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He was stationed in England from 1959 to 1961, when he came back to Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, where he remained until 1964. He was part of the test program for the F1-11 fighter jet during his service from 1965 until 1969. Mr. Quick served in Vietnam from July of 1969 until July of 1970, when he returned to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas, retiring in 1973.
Cam earned many awards for outstanding service and performance, as well as letters of commendation from his commanding oficers during his 21 years in the Air Force. He was a proud veteran.
Following his time in the service, he worked for General Motors from 1973 until retiring in 1989 from their Doraville plant.
He met and later married Delores JoAnn Maddox on October 9th, 1954. They had two children, Michael, born in 1955; and Meshelle, born in 1959 in England; and also an adopted daughter, DeAnn Maher.
Mr. Quick was an active member of First Baptist Church Statesboro and a former member of Gracewood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his son-in-law, Mark Ensley; his brother, Vernon Quick; and two sisters, Eva Petty and Beatrice Lanier.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnn Quick of Statesboro; son, Michael Quick of Orlando; and daughters, Meshelle Ensley of Statesboro and DeAnn (Jim) Maher of Atlanta; four granddaughters, Amy (Brian) Kelley of Conyers, Ga.; Jennifer (Kenny) Hall of Metter, Ga.; Carrie (Cooper) Harkins of Wisconsin and Christina Maher of Atlanta; seven great-grandchildren, Rhys Ensley, Idella Wright, Arya Kelley, Sorcha Kelley, Flynn Harkins and Sophie Harkins and Chase Hall; his siblings, Jack (Sandra) Quick, Henry Quick and Maggie Ruth (Billy) Freeman.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with Dr. John Waters officiating. Interment will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brian Kelley, David Quick, Kelly Lanier, Kenny Hall, Steve Quick and Michael Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Salt and Light Sunday School Class.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.
