Mr. Edwin Eugene Arnold passed away on Saturday, May 5th, after an extended illness. He was under the care of hospice and was surrounded by his daughters at the end of his life.
Mr. Arnold was born on June 9, 1932, in Athens, Georgia, the son of Austin O. and Lois Bulloch Arnold. He was a 1949 graduate of Athens High School, where he was a member of the ROTC. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1954, Mr. Arnold served in the Army as a first lieutenant stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After leaving the Army, Mr. Arnold worked for Lockheed Corporation in Marietta, Georgia, and International Harvester Company through 1971. At that time, he joined the local dealership, L.J.L. Trucks in Macon, as vice president and general manager until his retirement in 2002. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the courses in Macon and his membership at River North and the Macon Rotary Club.
Mr. Arnold was a loyal and devoted husband to his late wife of 57 years, Dolores Martin Arnold, through her extended illness and her passing in 2009.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his two daughters, Debra Miller (Bob) of Statesboro, Georgia, and Lori Eagleson (Rich) of Peachtree City, Georgia. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kate Miller, Jenny Miller Purvis (husband, Erin), Trevor Eagleson, Brandon Eagleson and Megan Eagleson. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Jo Harris of Lincoln, Alabama, and Janet Sumpter of Dallas, Georgia; an uncle, James Bulloch of Savannah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Arnold.
Visitation will held on Tuesday, May 8th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Snows Memorial Chapel at 746 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th, at the Sexton's House at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, Georgia. Chaplain Kim Schmitt will officiate.
The family gratefully thanks Hospice Advantage and the Lafayette Rehab and Nursing Center in Fayetteville, Georgia, for their care and support over the last six months.
