Ethel "Eddie" Ruth Johnson Olliff, age 75, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 14th, after a brief illness. A native of Jonesboro, Georgia, she graduated from Griffin High School in 1961 then earned a Bachelor of Arts in romance languages from the Women's College of Georgia in 1965 and a Master of Arts in teaching from Emory University in 1975.
She was a Spanish teacher at Tucker High School from 1965-1979 before moving to Statesboro in 1980. She then taught at Statesboro High School from 1985-2000.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Norman Olliff of Statesboro; daughter, Katie Olliff; daughter-in-law, Rhiannon Olliff; and grandson, Solomon, of Lilburn, Ga.; niece, Pam Hopkins of Marietta, Ga.; several other nieces and nephews and many devoted friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Johnson; father, Chester Johnson; sisters, Betty Jo Thorpe and Ruby Fleming; brother, Charles Johnson; and nephew, Michael Fleming.
She was an active member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church, Georgia Power Ambassadors, the Support Group and very active in the . She was a past recipient of a Deen Day Smith Award.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 18, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 19, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Pittman Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Bagwell officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ACS Cancer Support Group.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Pittman Park UMC Team, 1102 Fair Road, Statesboro, GA 30458; or Statesboro Team, P.O. Box 14254, Savannah GA 31416.
