BROOKLET, Ga. -- Fred Smith, age 71, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County and graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1965.
Fred served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, was a member of Harville Baptist Church and owned and operated Fred Smith and Son Dry Wall for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Paul and Virginia Morris Smith; and sister, Brenda Smith.
Fred is survived by his sons, Jamie Smith, and his wife, Rosa, of Statesboro; and J.P. Smith of Brooklet; sister, Paula Smith McElveen, and her husband, Patrick, of Brooklet; grandchildren, Suzanna Smith, Kristen Smith, Eli Smith, Jacob Smith, Skielar Marie Smith and Michelle Elizabeth Smith; and served as guardian to Blake Cooper and Maraina Cooper, both of Brooklet; several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:30 to 2:30 Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, immediately followed by a memorial service in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Dan Joyner officiating. Burial will be in Harville Baptist Church Cemetery.
