STATESBORO, Ga. -- Kent Dean Murray was born January 26, 1948, in Boston, Mass. He departed his life on earth June 20, 2014, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro following a brief illness. He was a professor in the Communication Arts Department at Georgia Southern University. Kent graduated from Bay County High School and moved to Panama City, Fla. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served during the Vietnam conflict, working in communications, until his honorable discharge in 1972. He attended the University of West Florida and graduated in 1974 from Alpha College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in communication and also his Master's of Art in communications. Kent taught at Junes College in Jacksonville, Fla., Park College in Kansas City, Mo., and at Georgia Southern University until his death.
Mr. Murray attended Statesboro First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Douglas Murray; and his father, Donald LeRoy Murray.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife, Wanda Murray of Statesboro; his children, Tanaya Farr (Brian) of Springfield, Bryan Douberly (Jennifer) of Brooklet and Joshua Douberly of Rincon; his mother, Marie Murray of Statesboro; two brothers, Bruce Murray (Eileen) of Potomac Falls, Va., Don Murray (Linda) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation with be Tuesday from 12:30-2 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. John Waters officiating.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Douberly, Bryan Douberly, Tyson Davis, Kelly Berry, Don Heller and Brian Farr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Douberly and Cody Farr.
Interment will be in the Eastside Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Department of Communication Arts, Veazey Hall, P.O. Box 8091, Statesboro, GA 30460.
