INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Mrs. Lavenia Bryant Jacobs, age 80, passed into rest Saturday, February 18, 2012. Mrs. Jacobs, the daughter of the late Stephen and Estella Keel Bryant, attended the John Hope School #26 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School class of 1949. After graduating, she received her Certificate of Proficiency from Central Business College. In later years, she became an honor graduate of Mid America College of Funeral Service in 1985, where she became a member of Pi Sigma Eta Lambda Kappa Chapter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Plummer Jacobs Sr. After his death, she co-owned and operated Jacobs Brothers Funeral Home. In 1980, she became a licensed funeral director and embalmer and established and founded Lavenia Home for Funerals on October 21, 1986. Mrs. Jacobs was a soloist, as well as a radio and recording artist. She was a member of the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served in the choir, missionaries, class leader of Sunday School Class and many other civic and community organizations.
Lavenia leaves to celebrate her Home Going and legacy, a loving daughter, Estella Louise "Stella" Jacobs; and a devoted son, Plummer David "Buddy" (Sandra) Jacobs Jr., both of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Lois B. White; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
The Home Going Celebration Service for Mrs. Lavenia Bryant Jacobs will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Brock B. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jacobs' remains will lie in state at the church on the day of service from noon until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
