Jerry Dekle passed away November 14, 2018, in Tampa, Florida, at age 96.
He was the fourth child of Remer "Gary" and Dora Rushing Dekle of Register, Ga. Jerry was born and raised in Register. He attended Georgia Teachers College (Georgia Southern) on a basketball scholarship.
He served in the Navy during World War II as part of a blimp crew and during the Korean War as a reservist. He met his wife, Charlotte "Corky," while stationed in Virginia and they were married for 65 years.
He spent most of his adult career after the service working at Southern Bell in Florida.
After retiring from the telephone company, he joined his father in Register to run his cattle ranch.
Jerry and his wife were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Statesboro, Ga.
After retiring from his ranch, he moved to Florida to live with his daughter, Sharyn and her husband.
He is survived by their two daughters, Patsy and husband, James Ray Johnson; and Sharyn and her husband, Graeme Woodbrook. They also have three granddaughters, three step-granddaughters and their husbands, eight great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, November 18, 2018, from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lower Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 4, Register, GA 30452.
