William Lloyd (Rabbit) Barlowe Our beloved William Lloyd (Rabbit) Barlowe was born January 1, 1929 in New Sweden, Texas. He was the second son of Wesley & Scottie Lee Jones Barlow, and he entered into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 10:50am in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. As a youngster, William was reared up in Grand Chapel AME Church where he was a member until 1951. As a young man he was drafted into the military by the U.S. Army while working at the Shoe Store on Congress Avenue's "French Bootery". William attended Austin's Independent Schools, namely Rosewood & Blackshear Elementary, Kealing Junior High and old Anderson High School on Pennsylvania Ave. He enjoyed sports and played ball with various schools and was a member of a team called "The Honey Drippers" with the City Recreation Department. After bravely serving in the Korean War, he was later honorably discharged from the military and resided in various cities in California until he moved back to his home state Texas. He spent many years volunteering by helping countless veterans with their disability benefit needs as a co-founder of a non-profit organization "Veterans For Change". William happily enjoyed the company of many family and friends in Texas until he departed this life. William was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Wesley Barlow, Jr., Lorenzo "Bill" Barlow, Letitia "Lee" Barlow and Raymond Barlow, sister Pauline Barlow, cousins, nephew and other friends. William's survivors include his beloved sister Dorothy; sister-in law Fairy Barlow, former loving wives Mableine Barlow and Dorine Carter, children Carolyn Elaine "Kathy'" Barlow, Wanda [Rick] Tolliver, Lisha [Gary] Lett, Charles Nelson, William L. [Luisa] Barlow, Jr., Arthur R. [Jackie] Barlowe, Ricky E. [Mitos] Barlow, Lashon Barlowe, Raymond [Vickie] Barlowe, niece Gayle Edwards, special friend Gail Vickie Franklin, and a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Private family viewing visitation held between 12:00pm - 1:00pm, and friends visitation between 1:00pm - 7:00pm Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at King-Tears Mortuary, 1300 East 12th Street, Austin, Texas 78702. Homecoming religious services celebrating William's life will be held at 11:00am Thursday, March 21, 2013 at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 4509 Springdale Road, Austin, Texas 78723. Interment will be held at 3:00pm at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
