William Barlowe Obituary

William Lloyd (Rabbit) Barlowe Our beloved William Lloyd (Rabbit) Barlowe was born January 1, 1929 in New Sweden, Texas. He was the second son of Wesley & Scottie Lee Jones Barlow, and he entered into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 10:50am in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. As a youngster, William was reared up in Grand Chapel AME Church where he was a member until 1951. As a young man he was drafted into the military by the U.S. Army while working at the Shoe Store on Congress Avenue's "French Bootery". William attended Austin's Independent Schools, namely Rosewood & Blackshear Elementary, Kealing Junior High and old Anderson High School on Pennsylvania Ave. He enjoyed sports and played ball with various schools and was a member of a team called "The Honey Drippers" with the City Recreation Department. After bravely serving in the Korean War, he was later honorably discharged from the military and resided in various cities in California until he moved back to his home state Texas. He spent many years volunteering by helping countless veterans with their disability benefit needs as a co-founder of a non-profit organization "Veterans For Change". William happily enjoyed the company of many family and friends in Texas until he departed this life. William was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Wesley Barlow, Jr., Lorenzo "Bill" Barlow, Letitia "Lee" Barlow and Raymond Barlow, sister Pauline Barlow, cousins, nephew and other friends.
