Bess Komm Obituary

Bess Burns Wiemer Komm Bess Burns Wiemer Komm passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20th, 2013, after struggling with cancer here in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 81. Bess Burns was born July 6, 1931 in Independence, Wisconsin to Bessie and Martin Wiemer. Bess is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, retired Lt Col. Donald Richard Komm. She is also survived by her three children; Sheri Lipina of Winnsboro, Richard Komm of Houston and Linda Komm and her husband Jim Nix of Austin, Texas. Bess's great pleasure were her 10 grandchildren; David and Brian Lipina, Andrew (& wife Sarah) Komm, Martin Komm, Jordan Komm, Crystal (& husband Chris) Lovelady, Chris Madison, Raleigh Nix and Marshall Nix. Bess was blessed to have three great grandchildren; Emma, Bri and Zane Lovelady. Bess enjoyed many wonderful times with her nieces and nephew and their families: Ken, Susan and Andrea Britt, Wendy, Melody and Evan Fasinger, Ross and Kathy Britt, and Doug, Linette and Gabe Britt. Proceeding her in death were her parents, and sister Jane (& husband Ken) Britt. Bess was an Air Force wife who moved her family around the world to support her husband at his various duty stations. These locations included the Philippines, Acapulco, Germany and numerous locations here in the States. No matter where the Komm family landed, Bess became a faithful member of her local church. You could depend on seeing her in her Sunday best singing her heart whether she was in the congregation or church choir. In 1977, Don and Bess moved to Round Rock to begin their next adventure, Don's retirement. Bess immediately started looking for a church and became one of the founding members of St Phillip's United Methodist Church. At the same time, she joined the Sweet Adeline's singing barbershop chorus, first in Round Rock/Georgetown, then Temple, and finally became a member of the well-known championship Alamo Metro Chorus in San Antonio, Texas. Bess also loved singing with the St Phillip's choir and sang with them for 35 years. Bess's interest in music came early in life- she played the tenor saxophone in her high school band! Mom always used to say "when you sing, you actually pray twice". Memorial services will be held at St. Phillip's United Methodist Church, in Round Rock on Sunday, January 27th at 2 pm. The family will receive friends at the life center immediately following the celebration of Bess Burns' life. The family requests any memorials be given to St Phillips.
