Joan PEHRSON Obituary

PEHRSON, Joan Born July 15, 1930 to Andrew and Mildred Alguire of Chisholm Minnesota, Joan Pehrson of Austin Texas said goodbye to us on June 19th, 2018. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Jo made friends easily and maintained contact with many. Jo was an active volunteer everywhere she lived, from hospitals and day cares to Golf Tournaments, Make A Wish Foundation, the American Women's Club of Brussels and countless other organizations. Jo had a sense of adventure and loved to travel. One of her fondest memories was when she and husband Perry were transferred to Brussels Belgium. Jo organized so many tours that she became good friends with one of the bus drivers who was always on standby waiting to see what new adventure she was planning. During their 5 year stay in Brussels, Jo planned so many trips to Paris that she knew every alley and underground like the back of her hand. She had a specific hotel she would have the group stay at in Paris and would call to say, "Hi it's me again" and the hotel concierge knew her so well that he would respond saying "Hi me...how many this time?". Her sense of fun did not stop with travel. Always dressed to the nines with matching earrings and shoes, Jo loved to go out for dinner as dinner was the "evening's entertainment". When she and Perry were first transferred to Austin, Jo and her friends would find a new "hole in the wall" restaurant to try that had live country music. She would laugh while telling you of a great country bar they found that served food, had entertainment but mostly giggled about a shower curtain that hung as the bathroom door, or how they sat outside on picnic benches while enjoying Catfish at the Fire Department Catfish Fry and of course all of the small unknown BBQ joints at the time. As a left hander, Jo was very creative and artistic. She was a great cook, played the piano, took painting classes and was always knitting or needle pointing. She loved to entertain and have dinner or card parties and play dominos, aka chicken feet, with family and friends. She rarely missed her weekly bridge club and especially enjoyed the Tuesday Night Cocktail parties in the Hills. Jo loved to have a "good" time. As an avid reader of books and newspapers, Jo was great at the daily Crossword Puzzles and any type of number game the papers provided. With Jo you knew when it was 6:00pm as it was time for a "kinuper" and watch Wheel of fortune as she solved the puzzles. Jo is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and favorite dance partner Perry Pehrson and grandson Andrew. Jo will be missed by daughter Maia, son Ned, family members Judy, Helga and grandsons Austin and Alex, and all the friends she made along the way. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society in honor of Joan Pehrson.
