JOHNSON, Nancy Belle (Lawrence)

Nancy Belle Lawrence Johnson was born April 15, 1923 in Franklin (Williamson County), near Nashville, Tennessee to Effie and Felix Lawrence. She spent most of her youth on a very large farm with one Sister, Anna, and Six brothers - Elighe; Herman, Frank, Ollie, Jasper, and Felix. She graduated from Tennessee A&I in Nashville (Later named Tennessee State University) with a BA in Speech and Drama. Nancy obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Nancy worked as an Educator at Huston - Tillotson College (Now Huston - Tillotson University) and the Center for Public Schools Ethnic Studies Program at the University of Texas at Austin as a Desegregation Specialist in the Southwest Region of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana. She also taught Speech and Drama at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas for several years. Nancy's professional life enabled her to become The First African - American Buyer, and Salesperson for the Leading Women's Clothing apparel Store in the Austin Area, Snyders -Chenards. She fitted such notables as Farah Fawcett, Ann Richards, and Lady Bird Johnson. With her Retirement Nancy, survived her second husband, Clarence Johnson and continued to serve diligently as a Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and St James Episcopal Church. She was well - loved and will be missed by her two surviving sons Lauritz, Sr. (Larry) , and Ron Williams, and her grand - children Anna Casey Williams, Lauritz, Jr. (Tigre Liu) Williams, his wife Lesli, Eva Williams, and Carl Williams. Services will be at St James Episcopal Church 1941 Webberville Road at Noon on Friday March 21st.
