Pamela Renee (Acosta) CRITENDON(1964 - 2014)

Pamela Renee

June 4, 1964 - July 16, 2014 passed from this world at 10:30 pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in her home surrounded by love and smiles and hugs from dozens of her closest friends and family. She was a lifelong educator, a caretaker, a wife, a mother, a fighter and a friend to hundreds.

Pam was born in Austin, Texas on June 4, 1964, to Barbara and Pete Acosta. She was 50 years old. She was a true Austin native. She attended Casis Elementary, O'Henry Junior High and S.F. Austin High School. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and attended graduate school at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

Pam was a lifelong educator. She loved music, dance, children's literature and most of all, she loved people. She taught dance, creative movement, physical education and was a class room educator for Austin Independent School District. She worked for AISD for more than 20 years. She was passionate about education and worked all her professional life to teach children to become responsible people.

Above all Pam was a wonderful and caring person and a fearless fighter. At the age of 20 Pam took on the responsibility of raising her brother and two much younger sisters following her mother's death from dementia in 1982 and her father's death in 1984. Pam was able to complete her college education while raising her siblings. Pam married her high school sweetheart Kevin Critendon in 1986 and they started their married life together, with Pam's little sisters. In 1992 Pam and Kevin started their own family with the birth of their daughter Taylor Renee and then in 1996 were again blessed with the birth of their son Jeffrey Austin.

Despite her short life and the obstacles she faced, Pam's life was full. She met each day with laughter, a smile and an unparalleled confidence and love.

Pam is preceded in death by her father, Pete Acosta, mother Barbara Russell Acosta, brother David Acosta, all of Austin. She is survived by her mother and father-in-law Timmie and Bobbie Critendon, her devoted husband Kevin Critendon, her daughter Taylor Critendon and her son Austin Critendon, her sister Lori Acosta of Austin, her sister and brother-in-law Paula and Barton Marks, her brothers-in-law Tim Critendon and Reed Critendon, her nephews Craig and William Critendon and her niece Joslyn Marks, all of Austin.

And hundreds of students, coworkers and friends......

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Memory of Pam Critendon to the Capital of Texas Chapter of the or other . A celebration of Pam's life will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Zilker Botanical Garden Center at 2220 Barton Springs Road beginning at 1:30 pm.
