Robert Dudley Childress

Robert Dudley Childress Robert Dudley Childress, beloved father of David Childress of Fort Worth, TX, Kathy Barton of Troy, MI, and Nancy McDonald of Austin, TX, grandfather of Elizabeth, Mark, Michelle, Laura, Andrew, Kathryn, David, Kelsey, and Cade, great-grandfather of Carolyn, Peyton, Hayley, Nora, Elliot, Tyler, and Bennett, and brother of Geraldine Childress Bagley, peacefully entered Heaven on November 14, 2012, surely hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Robert was born June 14, 1928, in Memphis, TN. His family soon settled in Jackson, MS, where Robert attended Central High School and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. Robert was also a devoted Boy Scout, working diligently to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a goal he accomplished in 1944. In the fall of 1946, Robert entered the University of Mississippi, graduating with a BBA in Accounting in the spring of 1949. A few weeks later, on June 4, 1949, he married the love of his life, Doris Ann Bullock. After many years traveling around the world with the USAF, Robert and Doris settled in San Antonio, TX, where they became faithful members of Northeast Baptist Church. Over the next 35 years, Robert served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and leader of various committees. Above all, Robert was a man of God, modeling love, faithfulness, integrity, generosity, patience, unselfishness, perseverance, and wisdom for his family. In his own words, his "faith in Jesus Christ was the sustaining power throughout his adult life." He set an honorable example for not only his children and grandchildren but for all who were privileged to know him. If you would like to honor Robert in some way, the family suggests a donation to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. Obituary and guestbook available online at
