Edna Tiemann Yocum Kramer Weigelt Obituary

Edna Marie Tiemann Yocum Kramer Weigelt
New Braunfels - (September 22, 1925 - April 9, 2021)
Edna Marie Tiemann Yocum Kramer Weigelt, 95, of New Braunfels, Texas, was born on Sept. 22, 1925 in Taylor, Texas to Walter and Lena (Walther) Tiemann.
The third of eight children, she grew up around the Taylor area and attended Turkey Creek country school. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Lutheran Church at Wuthrich Hill and also St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Taylor. She hated chopping and picking cotton but loved playing volleyball, going on hayrides and to dances, and listening to the radio on Saturday evenings. At sixteen she moved to Austin and worked at the Milan Cafeteria. She met Ellis Yocum and they married on Feb. 24, 1946 following his stint in the Navy during World War II. Ellis was a fireman for the City of Austin and he and Edna had three daughters: Donna, Glenda and Janet. Ellis passed away from cancer on Dec. 14, 1961. Edna worked as a caregiver for several elderly patients and then as a receptionist for Dr. Eckhart for 12 years. During this time she was reunited with a childhood friend, Bill Kramer, a widower with two sons, Wayne and Keith. Bill and Edna were married on April 8, 1967. After 25 years of marriage, Bill passed away on June 15, 1992, following a heart attack. A close family friend, O'Neal Weigelt, a widower with an extended family, including stepsons Wes and Jim Atchison and stepdaughter Joan Atchison, called on Edna and after a year or so of courtship they got married on June 10, 1995. They resided in Austin, Texas for 23 years before they moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in New Braunfels, Texas.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents, brother Reuben (Vemille) Tiemann of Henrietta, Texas, sister Alice (Obie) Weise of Taylor, Texas, sister Vema Mae Zebug of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Kristie (Noel) Pennington of Nolensville, Tennessee, granddaughter Brandi (Joe) Paul of Tyler, Texas, stepsons Wes (Deb) Atchison of Brusly, Louisiana and Jim Atchison of Houston, Texas and stepdaughter Joan (Gerry) Swanson of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Edna is survived by her husband O'Neal Weigelt of New Braunfels, Texas, brothers Leon (Nita) Tiemann and Olin Tiemann of Taylor, Texas, sister Lillian (James) Clayton of Austin, Texas and sister Gloria Tiemann (Gary Hellmann) of Sequim, Washington, daughter Donna (Marv) Holcomb of Canyon Lake, Texas, daughter Glenda Vera of Port Arthur, Texas, daughter Janet (Mark) Hemingway of Dripping Springs, Texas, stepsons Wayne Kramer of Tampa, Florida and Keith (Sherry) Kramer of Ingleside, Texas and thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren and many, many nieces, nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews.
During her adult life, Edna was an active member of several organizations at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin. She volunteered at the Old Bakery and Emporium where she sold many of her sewing crafts. She was a very good seamstress sewing and altering clothes for many people including sewing the wedding dresses for daughters Donna and Glenda. She played on several softball and volleyball teams, was an avid reader and enjoyed dominoes, card games, puzzles and baking treats for the many grand kids. She had the kindest heart and such a gentle soul that it could be said that she was an angel that dwelt among us.
She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her family and friends.

Edna was a truly remarkable woman. When I first met her I was recovering from my own mother’s death. Edna knew that. And yet, over the years, she came to fill that void with remarkable good grace and affection. She indeed became my second mother. Edna survived such amazing challenges in life but her faith and her optimism kept us all anchored. She was the glue, the rock that kept us from unraveling or losing sight of what was important. She drew us all together. What a remarkable mother and partner she was! I share with you all the grievous sense of loss and the great sense of joy in being comforted by her memory.
