Agnes MCANDREW Obituary
MCANDREW, Agnes Of Florence Texas passed away peacefully at her home on May 10, 2018 at the age of 86, surrounded by her family. Ara Agnes Leatherman was born in Donahoe, Texas on May 6, 1932, the fourth of six children in a loving Christian family. She attended Bartlett High School where she was captain of the basketball team, valedictorian of her senior class and Miss Bartlett High School 1949. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1953 with a degree in Business Administration and worked for the Department of Agriculture for 5 years. She married the love of her life, Lyall McAndrew, on September 5, 1952, and Lyall and Agnes started their lives together in Georgetown Texas, where they had two daughters and were founding members of Crestview Baptist Church. In 1965 Agnes and Lyall moved to their ranch in Florence, where they were active members of the First Baptist Church, loyal supporters of the Florence Buffaloes and tireless workers in the creation and maintenance of the Florence Veterans Memorial. After Lyall retired in 1980, they spent much of the next 25 years traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, George Elbert and Ola Mae Leatherman; her brothers, Luke Jasper Leatherman and Gibbs Leatherman; and her sister, Norma Lee Irvin Leschber. She is survived by the family who will forever love her dearly: her devoted husband of 66 years, Lyall McAndrew; her daughters, Peggy (Ken) Houghton of Georgetown; Phyllis (Tim) Ellinger of Dallas, her granddaughters Cassandra (Jake) Isbell of Florence, Rhonda (Matt) Karcher of Spring, Meredith (Connor) Warren of Dallas; her grandson, Jarrod Ellinger, of Dallas; her beloved great grandchildren, Rex and Lyla Isbell; her brother, Clem (Daphne) Leatherman of Taylor; her sisters, Emma Nell Harper of Austin and Thyra (Hardy) Whitfield of Burnet, her brother-in-law DeWayne (Donene) McAndrew, her sister-in-law, Norma Schumann, and her cherished nieces and nephews. A memorial service to honor Agnes's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 106 College St., Florence TX 76527. In lieu of flowers, Agnes's wish was for donations to be made to the Florence Veterans Memorial Fund at Florence City Hall by phone (254-793-2490), in person at the City office, or by mail to PO Box 430, Florence, TX 76527, checks to be made payable to City of Florence FBO Veterans Memorial Fund.
