Angelique BRUNT Obituary
BRUNT, Angelique E. Angelique E. Brunt passed away in Austin, Texas, on May 31, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was born to Hubert E. and Machiko Kajiki Brunt on July 29, 1953, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She attended Carlsbad High School, Colorado Women's College as an undergraduate, and the University of New Mexico where she earned her BSMT in Medical Technology. After college, she married Dr. R. Paul Shoemaker, and lived in Hobbs, New Mexico, where sons Jared and Jesse were born. She and the boys moved to Austin, Texas, in 1987 and later made their home in Pflugerville. Most of her long career was as a Medical Technologist, including Chief Medical Technologist at the University of Texas at Austin from 1989-2010, and more than five years at the City of Austin's Health and Human Services Department as a Medical Technologist at the time of her passing. Angelique had a life-changing impact on everyone who knew her. Profoundly private and in honor of her Japanese heritage and values, she intentionally kept her immediate circle small enough to spend the quality time required for close personal relationships. Her words were impeccable: always kind, always supportive, and forever giving people credit where due. She loathed being in the spotlight or fussed over; preferring to be the cornerstone of support in the many lives about her. In her early adult life, she loved taking her boat out on the lake and was an avid skier. This passion for water was passed to her sons. Her favorite exercise was to be in cowboy boots tearing up the dance floor. Angelique was a dedicated Longhorn football fan and in this one area, was not shy about rooting loudly for her team! She also loved getting behind the wheel of her red Firebird; she seldom relaxed, preferring to always be productive; she double-tasked while talking on the phone to friends by playing fetch with the pups. Ignited by her father growing up, her love for the outdoors once again blossomed since meeting Paul Boothe. Over the past few years, he inspired her to make time again for hunting and fishing and would indisputably outshoot and out fish any one of the guys. They began traveling some and enjoyed going to some beautiful destinations. Recently, Angelique made time to reconnect for a weekend with the girls, and made many trips to enjoy her grandsons and family, as well as trips to see her mother in Carlsbad. Angelique is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Boothe, her loving mother, Machiko, her son, Jared P. Shoemaker, his wife, Leslie, grandsons Jacob West and Jackson Shoemaker, of Midland, and her son, Jesse R. Shoemaker, his girlfriend, Stephanie Garner, of Pflugerville, numerous cousins in Texas and New Mexico, and many relatives still in Japan, as well as a host of dedicated friends. Angelique is preceded in death by her beloved father, Hubert, older sister, Chiyo Pauline Brunt, younger brother, Tony Eugene Brunt, and grandson, A.J. Shoemaker. Services will be held in Carlsbad, NM, at West Funeral Chapel at 4:00 pm (MST), Saturday, June 9th, 2018, with graveside service to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held near Pflugerville in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Angelique Brunt-Boothe Memorial Scholarship Fund for a Carlsbad High School senior entering the medtech field. Memorial contributions can be sent to P.O. Box 2316 Pflugerville, TX 78691.
