Anna Louise Shumate

Anna Louise (Weeze) Shumate Anna Louise (Weeze) Hill was born September 29, 1920 to Claude (Bapaw) Boyce Hill and Callie (Gagi) Louise Austin in Travis County, Texas. Weeze was one of five children. Brothers' Brooks (Sonny) and Charles (Buck) Laurence Hill preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Morine (Ren) Veigel and Nancy Jo (Lovey) Benner. Weeze inherited deep Texas roots, with ancestors arriving in Travis County during the 1830's. One ancestor having the first ferry across the Colorado at what is now known as Fiesta Beach and another having one of the first cotton gins in the area. She graduated from the old Austin High School on 12th & Rio Grande. Weeze married Lester Robert Sieck of Austin/Houston in 1941. They began the Lucky L Dairy on the Farm south of Onion Creek, which is now about one mile south of the Bergstrom Airport. Weeze and Lester had one child, Robert Laurence (Larry) Sieck, who was born in 1944. Weeze is survived by her son, Larry, granddaughter Shawna Loren Sieck and great-grandson Robert Devyn Sieck who reside in Austin. In 1951 Weeze married Earl Porter Deathe, Jr. in Austin and they had another son, Earl P. (Tre) Deathe III. She is survived by Tre and daughter- in-law Nikki, grandson, Jordan Austin Deathe and granddaughter, Alison Margaret Deathe, who reside in Austin. Her most famous comment came on January 17, 1965 as she stepped off Air Force One at Andrews AFB and noticed the snow. Her comment was "If I'd known it was going to be snowing, I wouldn't have worn my Sunday-Go-Ta-Meet'ng shoes!" Her comment was published in many countries. Weeze was very fortunate to be a guest of President and Mrs. Johnson in the summer of 1968 for a stay in the White House of 10 days. It was an experience she treasured for the rest of her life. In 1975, Weeze married Cheyenne Pollei of Rosebud, Tex., and enlarged her family circle. She is survived by Patrick Pollei and his wife Deborah of McGregor, Tex., Michael Pollei of Austin, Tex., and Paula Sue Pollei. Cheyenne loved airplanes and they spent time with the local Experimental Aircraft Association and enjoyed many camping nights in Kerrville at the Southwest Regional Fly-In. Cheyenne preceded her in death in 1980. In 1981, Weeze met James Park Shumate of Ohio in Austin. They enjoyed many good years together and were devoted to each other. In 2000, Weeze's health declined and Park's devotion became ever more evident. In her final years in Belton, Park attended Weeze with great love and devotion. He cared, cooked, fed, and loved her. Weeze died peacefully at home in her sleep on October 17th and closed a chapter in all of our lives. She was god mother to Patty Veigel and Lucinda Robb. A true measure of the success of a person's life is the quality of friends one collects. All who knew her became infected with her enjoyment of life and often laughed with her. She treasured her life and the folks in it: her husband, Park, the Hill Clan, the Sieck's, the Deathe's, the Pollei's, Max Baer, Board of Insurance, Tony Bingelis, Harry Brandt, Otto Brandt, Warner Brock, JL Brown, Marietta Brooks, Betty Burke, Earl Campbell, Franke and Sophie, Liz Carpenter, John and Nellie Conally, Bill Cosby, Robert Culp, Daughters of the Nile, Helen and Kay Deathe, Delwood Neighborhood Assn., Kevin, Whitney and Kyle Faulkner, Truman and Jean Ferguson, Flossie, Joyce and Clif Fort, Charlotte Gunn, George Hamilton, Margaret Hobbs, Walter and Ruby Hodnett, Dorothy Hill, Hubert and Muriel Humphrey, Ruth Nagel Hill, The Hollingsworths, Kathy Teague Hopf, Clair Jordan, JC Kellam, Dan Killen, Grandpa Lamme, Roosevelt Leaks, Sheldon Leonard, Cousin Libbie, Bobby and Hazel Luckett, Ruth Lynch, Kaizer Grocery, Lyndon, Lady Bird, Lynda, and Luci, The LBJ Company, Betty Magee, Bob and Gladys Meacham, Tom Miller, Mary Lee Moeller, Arthur Murray Studios, Lester Palmer, Christine and Connie Perkins, Tootie and LE Pettus, JJ "Jake" Pickle, Charley Pride, Cactus and Wally Pryor, Rick and Diana Resnick, Darrell and Edith Royal, James and Carol Ann Saxton, Sugar (Doris) Sawyer, Scarboroughs, Barbara Sieck, Allan Shivers, Lane and Lenore Stafford, Adelai Stevenson, Addie Mae Stone, Texas Nurses Assn., Homer Thornberry, Vista Care, Betty Waghalter, Ralph Yarborough, Harris and Emily Young, and so many more whose names we have missed or we did not know their influence. She is greatly missed here, but we know welcomed in the next - where she will connect, love, and live with stories, laughs, and gusto. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2005 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Weeze's Pallbearers are Jordan Deathe, Patrick Pollei, Paul Veigel, Brian Hill, Brad Hill, and Greg Benner.
