Curtis Ray Southworth Obituary
SOUTHWORTH, Curtis Ray Curtis was born on April 22, 1930 in Georgetown, Texas and passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on November 28, 2017. Curtis graduated from Georgetown High School in 1948, four years later he met Frances Anderson and they were married August 1, 1953 at his parent's home in Georgetown. In March 1955, Curtis and Frances moved to Austin where he joined the Austin Police Department. During his career he worked his way through the ranks as Patrolman, Sergeant, Senior Sergeant and finally Lieutenant. On November 30, 1985 Frances passed away after a battle with cancer and Curtis decided to continue with his plan to retire from the Austin Police Department which he did on December 31, 1985 after a little over 30 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Curtis took up oil painting, with landscapes and seascapes being his specialty. He also took up the game of golf which he enjoyed so very much. He had 2 hole-in-ones, a feat he was extremely proud of. Curtis met Mary Fletcher in January of 2008 and they were married on June 2, 2011. Mary has been by his side constantly as he battled Alzheimers in his final years. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Alice Southworth and his first wife Frances Southworth. He is survived by his wife Mary Fletcher Southworth, his children, Debbie Warren of Pflugerville, Texas, Curtis (Kurt) Southworth Jr. of Palm Springs, California and Jay Southworth and wife Nancy of Austin, Texas, his grandchildren, Courtney O'Leary and husband Brian, Whitley Warren, Sarah Southworth Saunders and husband Ryker, Paige Southworth and Hayden Southworth and his great-grandchildren: Ryland, Brynnley and Camdynn O'Leary. The family is extremely grateful for the kindness, support and prayers we have received from our family and friends throughout this difficult journey. Special thanks to the entire staff at Querencia Barton Creek for the care they provided to him and his wife during his recent time there. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1 pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas with Pastor Karl Gronberg officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to fund Alzheimers research through the Darrell K. Royal Research Fund at dkrfund.org.
