David Bolene Obituary
BOLENE, David William July 14, 1959 - December 4, 2018 We all die, but it's how we live that matters. David lived fully. He enjoyed life filled with love, travel, motorcycling, friends and hard work. His good nature and laugh filled an entire room. His devotion to his family was undeniable. David was born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Dr. William D. Bolene and Betty Johnson. He moved to Austin, TX to attend and graduate from The University of Texas with a BA in Business with an emphasis in Accounting. Following his graduation, he began employment with Infoquest Consulting in 1982. David was a genius in software development and provided his insight to many companies including: MCI Telecommunications, MBA Technologies, Business Threads, Pavilion Technologies, British Telecom, Global Healthcare Exchange and Whil. David was Head of Engineering for Whil, a pioneering digital wellbeing training company. In a few short years, David helped build Whil to over 2 million users in 100+ countries. It is fitting that his final project was focused on helping people to lead happier and healthier lives. The CEO at Whil shared that "David lived our brand. He loved life. He loved his family. He was a great father. A great talent. A great leader. And most importantly, a great friend." He was awarded a patent for his work in software development in 2017. He was a force of nature when it came to hard work and dedication. David could see what others could not, both in ideas and people. David met his wife in Austin. For 17 years, they laughed through life while raising two sons in a home filled with humor. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William D. Bolene and his nephew, Max Hollman. David is survived by his mother, Betty Johnson (husband Robert), sister, Susan Hollman (husband Tom), nephews, Nick Hollman and Michael Hollman, his wife Leah, along with their two sons, Cyrus and Chase, whom he adored. While he left us too soon, he left knowing he was loved. David literally departed in the arms of his mother, sister and wife. The family is grateful for so many loved ones that were able to come together for a living funeral to celebrate David. There will be no formal memorial services. However, every day will be a celebration of his extraordinary life force. The mosaic composition of all that remember him comprises something alive and vibrant, just as he always was. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rainier Hospice.
