Dr.  Elliott T. Egan Obituary
EGAN, Dr. Elliott T. "Tom" Tom Egan, 83, of Austin, Texas, died peacefully at home on September 12, 2018. He was born February 17, 1935, in Chicago, IL , a son of the late Clarence J. Egan and Anne B. Christesen Egan. Tom is survived by his wife, Jean Putnam Egan; his sons, Thomas J. Egan and James P. Egan, daughter-in-law Amy Egan, granddaughters Kayla and Gabriella, and countless friends. Tom excelled in most areas of his remarkable life. In academics he earned three Master's degrees and a Doctorate. In his profession as an educator, he was an inspiring teacher at both the High School and University levels. Tom was a natural athlete. He played baseball until age 70 and softball with the Austin Senior Softball League until age 82. During his teaching career, Tom was a gifted Coach of both baseball and football. Most will remember him, however, as an unparalleled fan of Notre Dame Football. Tom was a courageous and persistent worker in the non-violent struggle for Peace and Social Justice. Although in his later years, he no longer felt he could participate in or support the institutional Catholic Church, he remained a good man of strong faith and principles until the end of his life. A Memorial Service will be held in the coming weeks at First Unitarian Universalist Church in Austin.
