Ernestine A. Bridges Obituary
BRIDGES, Ernestine Ashe Ernestine Ashe Bridges, known to family and friends as Teenie, passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Robert Rawlings Bridges. Teenie was born on January 24, 1924 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was the second daughter to Callie and Ernest Ashe, and was always close to her sister, Anna Ashe Black of Breckenridge, Texas. Teenie attended Fort Worth Public Schools and graduated from R.L. Paschal High School in 1941. She was accepted to Texas State College for Women, now known as Texas Women's University, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in 1945. After attending a Girl Scout training course in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she worked at the Fort Worth Girl Scout Council until her high school sweetheart, Bob Bridges, returned from World War II and duty in the Pacific. They were married November 25, 1945 at the University Christian Church in Ft. Worth, Texas and honeymooned in Mexico City. In 1946, Teenie and Bob moved to Austin where they made their home and raised their family. They had two devoted sons, Robert Ashe Bridges and James Armstrong Bridges, and two cherished daughters-in law Trisha Triesch Bridges and Milly Holmes Bridges. They are grandparents to Caroline Bridges Cook (Thomas Westmoreland Cook III), Robert Triesch Bridges (Elise Nolen Bridges) and William Ashe Bridges (Noel Marie Bridges) and great grandparents to seven: Annie Bridges Cook, Elizabeth Rawlings Cook, Wesley Parks Cook, Thomas Westmoreland Cook IV, Robert Nolen Bridges, Blake William Bridges and Avery Elizabeth Bridges. Teenie was always involved in her children and grandchildren's interests. She attended school activities, ball games and was there for support whenever needed. Teenie and Bob passed on their love for the outdoors through fishing and hunting trips, time at their Wimberley ranch and horseback riding. The Bridges have been parishioners of Good Shepherd Church for over 60 years. Teenie volunteered with the Women's Prayer Group, St. Anne's Guild and Women of the Church Bazaars. She was also a member of the Junior League of Austin, The Seton Development Board and The Docents of the Governor's Mansion. She held leadership roles through the years with each organization. Teenie will be missed greatly by her family and large circle of friends. She had a deep faith, and we all know she is in heaven singing with the angels! The family would like to thank Rose Johns and her family for all the time, care and devotion they offer to the Bridges. Rose is such a blessing, and we are grateful for her loving service. A Memorial Service will be held at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Road, Austin, Texas on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Donations may be made in Teenie's honor to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd Memorial Fund, 3201 Windsor Road, Austin, Texas 78703. Remembrances may be left at www.wcfish.com
