I met James in Corpus Christi, my hometown, when I was fresh out of college and got my first newspaper job at the Caller-Times. James took me and other young reporters under his wing. He always treated us as colleagues and was genuinely interested in our lives. After I moved on to the Dallas Morning News, James was in Dallas working for Atex and we had many lunches and attended parties with mutual journalist friends. We continued to see James when he moved to Austin. James was a dear man, funny, smart, warm, a great cook and host, and a pleasure to be around. He will be missed by so many. Love you, James!
