DURR, James W. "Bill"
J.W. "Bill" Durr passed away on Saturday, May 14 in Georgetown from heart failure. He was 85.

Bill graduated from Lafayette High School in January , 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1953 as security and air police. He received an honorable discharge. During that time, he met the love of his life, Glendene. They only dated six weeks before they were married on June 9, 1951. They were married for 63 years. He attended the University of Texas from 1954-1957 graduating with a BS in Education.

Bill settled into a job with Ciba-Geigy Corporation for 35 years until he retired in 1993. From '59-'71 he was in sales and marketing, receiving district and regional performance awards. From '71-'93 he was in governmental affairs as a lobbyist. He headed lobbying efforts in 11 states, acted as chairman for pharmaceutical manufacturing associations in Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and was appointed Chairman in Texas of a governmental consulting group. Bill's other job duties included serving on the Drug Advisory Committee to the Department of Human Services in Texas and Louisiana.

Bill was good at what he did. He was presented with a Special Achievement Award by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association in '87.

Bill loved his family and his home in Georgetown. He took pride in both. He was able to live out his life there. That was his wish.

Bill is preceded in death by: father, Jack Durr, mother, Shirley Youngblood, brothers Adrian and Perry Youngblood, spouse Glendene Durr and granddaughter Leslie Wheelus.
He is survived by: sister, Barbara Pittman, daughters Gail Wheelus and Cindy Garner, son-in-law Lester Garner, grandchildren David Balch, Jr., Michael Durr and wife Trish, Shelley Marie and Bradley Wheelus, great grandchildren Phoebe and Kayla Durr, Cristin and Alex Winbourne.

Services will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown on Saturday, May 21, 2016 with reception at 1:00 pm and service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
