Larrie J. Washington Sr. Obituary
WASHINGTON Sr., Larrie James Larrie James Washington, Sr. of Bastrop, Texas, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was 66 years old. Born in Bastrop, Texas on October 2, 1951, he was the fifth child born to Sammie J. and Minnie Lee Washington. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Savior, and was baptized at Union Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he was a lifelong member. In his youth, he attended Emile High School in the Bastrop Independent School District. After high school, he attended Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, Texas where he received his Welding Certification. With his new trade and certification, Larrie moved to Tyler, Texas where he worked as a Hot Upset Welder for General Electric. After returning to Bastrop, Larrie united with his childhood sweetheart, Roxanne Martin, and they were happily married on June 6, 1970. To this union two children were born. Continuing his career in construction, he worked side-by-side with his older brother, Darnell, for E.E. Stuessy Co. Inc. They also worked together for 25 years at H.L. Chapman Pipeline Construction before starting their own business, Bastrop Road Boring, where they sub-contracted for a number of companies. In 2007, Larrie decided to fulfill his dream of owning his own barbeque restaurant and opened Larrie's Smokehouse on Highway 95. His inspiration came from his grandfather, Hulisher Hornsby, Sr., who owned a barbeque market in downtown Bastrop during his youth. Larrie enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, and his smile and kind spirit will be missed by many. Larrie was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie J. Washington and Minnie Lee Washington-Reese; his daughter, LaVoyce Washington-Jones; his brothers Sammie Lee Washington, Hulisher Randy Washington, and Clarence Williams; his stepfather Earnest Reese; his father-in-law Celus Martin and his mother-in-law Mildred Martin; his sister-in-law Marsha Lynn Martin-King and his brother-in-law Robert Johnson; and stepbrothers Lonnie Reese and Alvin Ray Reese. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 48 years, Roxanne Washington; his son, Larrie Washington, Jr.; five grandchildren- Andre Washington, Roxanne Washington, Brittany Reed, Kianne Lemuel, Kyonah Washington; and three great-grandchildren- Zariya Kinsey, Isaac Thomas and Keniah Francis.
