THOMAS, Leon Leon Thomas, 90, of Austin, died Saturday, November 4th. He was born in Forney, TX on July 21, 1927, a son of the late Mary (Guddo) and Philip Thomas. Leon was the husband of Mary Ann (Hornsby) Thomas. He served in the U.S. Army and retired SFC-E7 after 27 years. He then worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 21 years of service. Leon was proudly elected the First Black Commander of the Honor Guard by the Travis County VFW 2001-2003. He has been a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge since 1959. Flowers can be delivered today to 1300 E 12th Street, Austin, TX with Public Viewing 3PM-7PM. His Celebration of Life Service will be 11AM on Saturday, November 11th at Grant Chapel A.M.E. Worship Center, 1701 Kramer Lane in Austin. Interment at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery. A donation can be made to Grant Chapel A.M.E. Worship Center Building Fund in memory of Leon Thomas.
