KUEMPEL JR., Max Fritz Max Fritz Kuempel Jr., a life long resident of Pflugerville, died September 12, 2018 at the age of 90. Max was born June 12, 1928 to Max and Alvina Kuempel and grew up on the family farm four miles east of Pflugerville. After graduation from high school in 1945, Max farmed and worked cattle with his father and extended family. In 1952 he joined the Navy, serving four years as an aviation mechanic's mate on the USS Boxer. After discharge from the Navy, Max returned to his beloved home and worked for the Texas Highway Department and attended the University of Texas. He followed that with a 30 year career at the City of Austin Engineering Department and City Planning and Public Works division retiring in 1988. Max was a life long baptized and confirmed member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, council member, coordinator of the men's breakfast, and food pantry ministry. He also served his community as a member of the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department, the city's Planning and Zoning Committee, the Manville Water Board, and helped establish a Boy Scout troop. He enjoyed working outdoors, hunting, fishing, good conversation, cooking BBQ for family reunions, dominoes, reading, drives down country roads, and cold Schlitz. Max married Gretchen Frisch of Taylor on June 5, 1971 in Austin, recently celebrating 47 wonderful years of marriage. They lived in the home they built on the family farm he grew up on. Max was preceded in death by his brother Charles and nephew David Wolff. He is survived by his wife Gretchen, son Matthew and wife Kristen of Richland, Washington, daughter Gretchen and husband Tim of Kerrville, and five beautiful granddaughters Kathryn Rye, Linnea Kuempel, Suzanna Rye, Sarah Kuempel, and June Rye as well as siblings Nellene and Hank Hester of Round Rock, Pat and Herbert Wolff of Round Rock, Anne Kuempel of Austin, sister in law Gloria Kuempel of Pflugerville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Max would appreciate you supporting the . Max will be remembered as a selfless servant of God and his fellow man.Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with interment following at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
