Mike Perkin Obituary
PERKINS, Michael "Mike" 1943-2018 Michael "Mike" Christian Perkins, passed away to his final reward on July 25, 2018. Mike was comforted by his wife Kathleen Connolly Perkins, and his sons David and Christopher who were at his side during his final moments. Mike was a proud native Texan who was a lifelong fan of the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys-or any other Texas team that filled his heart with pride. Mike was born on October 30, 1943, to Bettye Swan Lockmiller and Raymond Christian Hellman in San Benito, Texas. In 1950, his mother married David Carter Perkins. The family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1952, and then returned to San Juan, Texas in 1960, where Mike graduated from Pharr San Juan Alamo High School. He went on to Texas A&M University and then to Pan American University where he graduated with a degree in English. The Perkins family have many people to thank during his long battle with cancer. The first would be "Team Tokaz", at Texas Oncology-Laurence, Pam, Julie and Ashley-who not only provided medical expertise, but humor as well. Mike survived eight years under their care. Later, when Mike moved on to the care of Hospice Austin, the family was supported my many caring individuals-especially Kathleen and Jack. Mike had many friends, but our "Chap Dads and Moms", who watched our sons grow up to be fine men and fathers, were a constant source of support and humor. Mike's other close friends were Mark and Mitzi Bogan. If anyone could lift Mike's spirits on a hard day it was Mark. In addition, Kathy and Mike looked forward to Cheryl Swanson's daily visits "just checking" she would say. Mike is survived by his wife Kathleen, who were married in Sausalito, CA in 1973. Mike and Kathy had two sons: David (Abby) Perkins and Christopher (Joanne) Perkins. They also have four grandchildren: Grace, Rex, Liam and Jack. His grandchildren were the 'light of his life'. Mike is also survived by sisters Kathy (Jimmy) Newell and Nancy (Scott) Bettersworth and his other "sister" Karen (Tom) Hannigan. He also has many beloved nieces and nephews that are forever in his heart. Remembrances may be left at www.wcfish.com.
