So sorry to hear about Bob's passing. Just thinking that I missed seeing his insightful blog posts. I was the subject one of his articles and found him to be an amazing writer and journalist. We spoke over the years and I know that he fought the cancer valiantly. His openess to the illness inspired many people. We will miss you Bob!

My Dearest Friend Judy, the Hylands, & the entire Schwab Family,
I thought this might be comforting to Kat & Becca and knowing it was from a great poet just like their father.
E.E.Cummings once described Heaven as...
"a keen city, which no one's ever visited, where always it's spring, and everyone's in love, and flowers pick themselves."
Godspeed Bob Schwab.

Catching up on the news after a trip to Colorado, I was so shocked and sad to learn of Bob's death. He was a true gentleman with a great sense of humor and compassion. I knew him in the 70s and early 80s but lost touch with him. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I met Bob about 3 years ago after being invited to play croquet in his back yard. Since that time hardly a week went by that we didn't compete against each other. I had a great respect for Bob, his always positive outlook and compassion for mankind. You will be missed. RIP

I am so grateful that we could play cards a few weeks ago. I will miss Mondays. My thoughts for the girls.

Robert played competitive manly men croquet with a regular Monday group of Home Boys. He hosted us in his large back yard over the last several years, often playing with remarkable vigor despite intense cancer treatments. Stoic, wonderful, generous man.
Thanks Bob, will miss arguing world economics and strumming your guitar.

I'm very grateful to have known and learned from your courage, sense of humor, and, although we frequently disagreed, your caring insights into business and politics, Robert. I'm a better man for having known and worked with you, and you've left this world a better place. Rest in peace my friend. (Those who are business owners in Colorado are invited to honor Bob's memory by taking a free listing, and possibly a paid page, on his online Colorado business almanac and small business directory, PioneerHQ.com)

To Bob's family: Bob and I worked together on the Austin American-Statesman in the '70s. He was a heck of a newspaperman. RIP. Mike Cox

Our years together were few but fun. I still remember the first time I met you when you came into Vice President for Student Affairs Office at UT. I said to myself "Here stands a tall, good looking, personable, intelligent man. I'm going to marry him." Thanks for the memories. Thanks too for the phone calls and e-mails these past few years and especially for your last visit to Austin.

Love,
Bonner

For the poet, Bob Schwab -

No Man Is An Island

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
