Virginia Clay Erwin Obituary
ERWIN, Virginia Clay Virginia Clay Erwin passed away peacefully June 27, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born in Malvern, Arkansas in 1927 to Pearl and Charles Clay. Virginia had a passion for helping people. She retired from the National Chapter of the American Red Cross after more than 20 years of service. She started as secretary and promoted to accountant. In retirement she and her husband moved to Smithville, Texas to be closer to family. Virginia was a devout and faithful member of St Andrew Methodist Church in Little Rock and that commitment remained in retirement at the First United Methodist Church in Smithville, Texas. She would volunteer to help at any Church function needing assistance. She helped bring music to Towers Nursing Home by routinely playing the piano. She also helped in putting together the children's activity packets for the church. She stayed as active with the church as she could for as long as she could. In her spare time, you may find her working her crossword puzzles, crocheting or cross-stitching, or creating some handy work for her family. She was also a scholar and loved to learn and stay updated on current events. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James H. Erwin; and grandson, Michael Erwin. Virginia is survived by her sons, Jim Erwin and his wife Margaret, Jeffrey Erwin; granddaughter, Elaina Erwin; grandson, Daniel Erwin and many friends. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Smithville with burial following at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.
