Walta Louise DeWalt
Walta Louise DeWalt died on February 17, 2021 at the age of 102 after a battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Blackjack, Texas on November 16, 1918 to Letha and Walter Schmidt.
Louise graduated from Troup High School at the age of 16. Four years later, she received a degree in Business from the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Women's University) in Denton, Texas.
While working in Deer Park, Texas, Louise met her husband, Ivan DeWalt, and they were married four months later at Grace Methodist Church in Houston. Ivan predeceased Louise on November 26, 2001.
Her 102-year remarkable journey included being a devoted wife of 62 years, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, a golfer and a gardener extraordinaire. She was tough, remarkable, and fiercely independent. Her life was well lived.
Louise is survived by her son, Boyce DeWalt, and daughter-in-law, Hideko, of Copperas Cove, TX; her daughter, Mary Lucas and husband, John Lucas of Austin, TX; grandchildren Donald DeWalt and wife, Gerda, Dan DeWalt and wife, Roxanne all of Copperas Cove, TX and Michael Lucas of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren Paige, Amanda, Evan, Steven, Maya, and Zoe; great-great grandchildren, Adriana, Azalea and Joel. We are all grateful for having her in our lives and will miss her dearly.
A special thanks to caregivers Anabel, Sonya, Jessie, Aziriah and Lakeitha, and to members of the WUMC Fellowship Class. You all made a difference in her life.
Due to the pandemic, there will be a private, family-only graveside service at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Cemetery on William Cannon, where she will be buried next to her husband, Ivan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Westlake United Methodist Church (1460 Red Bud Trail, Austin, TX 78746), where she was a member. Donations can also be made online at Westlake-UMC.org.
