Michael Heskett

Michael Heskett Michael Heskett, 63, of Austin died April 10, 2009. He was born May 10, 1945, in El Centro, California to William and Sarah (Heinley) Reppart Heskett Skinner. He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1976. Michael worked many years for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as the director of its State and Local Records Management Division and retired from this position in March of 2009. In his career, he played a significant role in the preservation and management of Texas government records and has been nicknamed the "Father of Texas Local Government Records Management. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Julia Heskett. In addition he is survived by his mother, Sarah Skinner of New Lexington, Ohio; three brothers, one sister, numerous nieces and nephews, and his kitties, Bubba, Ruby, Blackie, and Zazu. He is also survived by his biological son, Matthew, whose whereabouts are not known. To his friends and colleagues Michael was a gentle soul. He was a long-suffering Cleveland Indians fan, whose passions, beyond work and family, were baseball and genealogy. Services are Wednesday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. on the campus of the State and Local Records Management facility at 4400 Shoal Creek Blvd. Memorial donations may be made to Wildlife Rescue of Austin or any wildlife preservation organization of your choice.
