Daniel HERRERA Obituary

75, of Austin, passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 30, 1939 in Dallas, TX to Cristina and Jesus Herrera.

Daniel has been reunited in heaven with his parents Cristina and Jesus Herrera; sister Maria de Jesus (Mary) Castillo; brothers, Pedro and Juan Herrera. Daniel is survived by his children Gerardo Herrera, Diane Herrera, Jesus Herrera (Virginia), Javier Herrera (Rachel), Jaime Herrera, and Mark Herrera; sisters, Felicitas Contreras and Anna Maria Saldana (Moses, Sr.); his 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Daniel served his country in the United State Air Force and honorably discharged in 1961. Daniel was a faithful member of San Jose Catholic Church. Daniel had a passion for art, he loved to sketch and draw free hand and created many beautiful pieces of art. He was adored by his many nieces and nephews.

His family wishes to extend special thanks to the Heart Hospital of Austin, Dr. Nancy Foster, MD for going above and beyond to care for Daniel, while he was in the Heart Hospital, to Hospice and the nurses who assisted in his care while he was at home.

A vigil and visitation will start at 1 pm; recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 pm, recited by the San Jose Rosary Ministry group, led by Mary Arana; all to be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Angel Funeral Home, 1600 S. 1st St, Austin, TX. Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Father John Boiko at 10 am, Thursday, July 3, 2014 at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave, Austin, TX, with interment following at Assumption Cemetery.
