Vanessa Jo Alvarez On the morning of September 1, 2006 we all lost the most precious, kind-hearted, and loving woman - my beautiful wife Vanessa Jo Alvarez. For her 35 years of life on this earth she blessed us with her love and compassion for everyone, especially her family, friends, and life. She was always concerned with the well-being of others. Vanessa was a self-made woman in the business world as the founder and owner of True Blue Tattoo. She leaves behind her mother, Virginia Alvarez, her father, Joe Alvarez, a sister, Linda, and a brother, Joe , Jr. and Lynn. Also niece Caitlin and nephew Nicholas and the Alberty, Paschal, Romano, and Parker families, and her family and friends at True Blue Tattoo, and her broken-hearted husband, Charles Alberty. Visitation and a celebration of Vanessa's life will be Thursday September 7, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at the Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 East Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78752 (512) 419-7224.

What a painful loss. Ojos lindos como estrellas...and kneecaps too. Vanessa, the most beautiful angel of Austin. To think I considered removing my belly button (oh, excuse me) navel ring you gave me back in the day. Thanks for finding Spiny Bifida a good home. Thanks for sharing your AfroKen stickers, weiner dog duck chases, and adventurous nature. Most of all, thanks for your genuine love. You will be sorely missed...A shoulder to weep on and a soul to embrace for Charles and the family. My greatest sympathies. Stay strong and rock on for her.

I met Vanessa when she first started in the business. I was in and out of Austin for many years and we linked up again when I was touring with Beck as a carpenter. She was a huge fan. I got gave her a lot of the posters of shows from around the world. It was fun to see her, she was always so sweet. I was surprised on a recent trip to Austin when I was told of her passing. I have some really good memories of her and I will always keep them in my heart. I also wanted to let her family hear from another person who thought highly of her. She is and always will be alive in my memories.

Every beautiful word about Vanessa is absolutely true. She was always generous and pure in character. Anyone would be lucky to meet 10 such standout souls during their lifetime. She was always kind to me and our friendship never faded from when I first met her in '91 at Zoom/the bakery/LoveCat. I always admired how she would speak of the (then) mysterious Charles, and so, I still have faith in True Love.
I'm sorry I wasn't as close a friend as I could have been after 2000, when I got wrapped up in life's Great distractions, real or imagined. I'm sorry for having wasted precious time.
But, I will place faith and belief in the age-old idea that the physical world is not the end-all/be-all and there is more, much more out there, keeping a loving eye on us.
I pledge to always remember Vanessa and follow her example to keep an open heart and give everyone an honest chance.

I will always remember the way Vanessa was ethically and professionally uncompromising, despite not always recieving the same in return. She had the vision and guts to truly create some special things in this world, and I will never forget the honor of having known her.

Vanessa will forever be remembered as a most unique and outgoing woman. I recall when we met in highschool, she arrived at a party on the back of a motorcycle with the coolest pet rat clinging to her neck. She'll be greatly missed by many. Love and Regrets!

My sweet Vanessa! We have so many fun memories growing up. You were my first friend and best friend in High School. I remember everyday after math class, you would meet up with me and Charles. You guys would hit, pull hair, yell at eachother..little did I know, you you were flirting! duh! I'm going to miss you soooooo much! I will never forget the day Jim gave me my ladybug tattoo. You were holding my one hand and Sims was holding my other hand. You are the most loving, caring, thoughtful and sweetest person I have ever known. I wish I could be there tonight. Charles, I am so sorry. I love you both........FOREVER!

Vanessa, my fellow entrepreneur... she the one who loved three-legged cats and provided spiritual refuge for so many of Austin's misfits... she who I crushed for so hard, but let me down so gently and remained a confidant and comrade...

Fly straight into Heaven, my dear. You will always be with us in our hearts.

I only saw Vanessa a couple of times throughout the time that my friend worked there and whenever I went to just visit and the few times we got to hang outside of True Blue but she was always super kind. My heart goes out to her husband and family. Just remember she will always be around in spirit with you and those who were her friends and in the shop of course. V you are missed and thought of today and for many more days to come. Thank you for being the person you were to humans and animals. Much love. In my thoughts and prayers.

Vanessa was an amazing woman. She was truely one of the sweetest and most caring people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Her love of everyone and especially the love she had for all animals including her own was an inspiration to me and my coworkers. She holds a special place in all of our hearts at Windsor Park Veterinary Clinic and we will miss seeing her bright smile walking through our doors. Charles, we send our deepest condolences.
