Amy Benton-Cioper Obituary

Amy Leigh Benton-Cioper "Starr" Born at 2:12 a.m., December 4, 1968, in Fort Worth TX, passed at 5:15 a.m., September 25, 2009 in Austin, TX. Amy grew up on the banks of Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country. Her early years were spent traveling the world, from summers in Cuernavaca, Mexico to winters on thee ski slopes of Colorado. As a beautiful and happy child she walked the streets of Paris, Monte Carlo, Amsterdam and the Greek islands. After graduating from Lago Vista High School she attended the University of Texas at Austin and went on to a career at IBM. But Amy's real love and passion was spent with her band "The Lovers" singing conscious, spirit-raising folk-rock. She was an integral part in organizing for the Flipside art festival, the Austin regional Burning Man, and co-founded the non-profit organization Art Garden to foster the seeds of creativity in all. Playing "cruise director" for many, all the while making every single person feel special, wherever she went people were having fun! On September 24, 2009 she married her sweetheart and soul-mate, Daniel Anthony Cioper, in a magical ceremony. She is survived by Daniel; her mother, Suzanne Nisbet of Austin, TX; father, Bob H. Benton and his wife Linda of Lakeway, TX; her brother, William Eric Benton-Nisbet and his wife Katherine of Austin, Texas; her grandmother, Wilma Moody Nisbet of Houston, TX; her grandfather, William Robb Nisbet, of Cherokee Villiage, Arkansas; as well as a large extended family from all over Texas. For those if us who will never, ever forget her she will live on in our hearts forever more as a shining star. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in Amy's name to Christopher House -- Hospice of Austin. A private celebration of her life will be held, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 in Austin.

It was an incredible honor to have known Amy. I had not seen her in years but the short time we spent together in High School will always stay with me forever. A bright and shining prescence was taken from us but it will never be forgotten and whenever I see a star twinkle I will remember her smile and her laugh. God Bless you and keep you Amy.

Oh Starr! Oh Starr!

You touched my life so very deeply. You will always be a wonderful soul who cared for and loved those around her. I admired you, sometimes from afar, and sometimes from right up close. I know we haven’t seen one another in such a long time, 7 years almost to the day, but, in my heart, you are always there. I learned much from you, Starr, in a very short time, and I will always travel this world, and beyond, with a small part of you in my heart. I want you to know that I have embraced one of your strongest beliefs, and I am a new ally and warrior with you in this cause – Peace. You were on the high road, I just didn’t know it. I do now.

Travelling on our first odyssey together, exploring and finding new things to be in awe of, everywhere we went. All those wonderful and crazy burner friends of ours! Loving music, finding all the good things in life, and oh, that horrible Vietnamese lunch place that you liked so much, I just didn’t have the heart to tell you how much I hated it! But I loved you and smiled and pretended to enjoy the food. Truth is, all I really enjoyed was your company, and it more than made up for the cuisine. Distance kept us apart, and now the chasm feels so much wider.

Dancing in the desert under the stars, your eyes were always so bright, smiling, gleaming. You provided me with a warm and comfortable place to stay after driving across the country. These are just a few of the memories of one very small, almost insignificant part of your life - But I am so very lucky to have met and known you Amy. Thank you. Dragonflies Forever!

Amy, it has been many years since we worked together for Manpower at IBM. I always thought very highly of both you and your brother, Eric. I know you will be greatly missed but your life left all our lives a bit brighter. I will never forget when you decorated my cubicle for my birthday. Sure wish I could have heard your music.
May God bless you.

My deepest blessings to Amy's family. I've known Starr for 4 years now and she's inspired me so much with her fearless ways of creative expression, her songs of truth and light, and incredible talents. It's always been challenging for me to break free of conventional norms, to be a more confident woman and to express myself more freely. I owe a lot to her for showing me a different and better way to be as a person, by example. Starr *always* greeted me with a smile and a hug and made me feel welcome in her presence. She exuded a loving-kindness that I think everyone could feel around her and she will be missed by so many. I am a better person for having had her in my life.

Suzanne,

My thoughts are with you; I see why you called Amy "Starr." You should be so proud of raising such a wonderful daughter.
