James (Jim) Dewey Magee, Jr. James (Jim) Dewey Magee, Jr., 84, passed away at his home on the morning of May 6, 2010, in Austin, Texas. Jim was born July 27, 1925, in New Iberia, Lousiana, to James Dewey Magee, Sr. and Kate Durio Magee, as the oldest of two children; his sister Annie Pearl predeceased him in death. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan Magee; Carole Magee, daughter of his first marriage to Marillyn Dawn Oakes; two stepchildren, Carol Johnson and Robert Sims; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Jim served in the U.S. Navy as a gunnery instructor for the 40-caliber rear facing machine gun on carrier-based dive bombers during World War II, enlisting on his 17th birthday. "Magee" attained the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer,and served at the Texas Naval Air Stations of Corpus Christi and Beeville. After the war he began his career in the parts department at Lewis Bogus Ford Motors in Corpus Christi, moving to Austin in 1973 to work as parts manager at McMorris Ford. He retired in 1996. Jim loved the outdoors. His favorite pastimes were fishing, working on his boat, bird hunting,competitive skeet - shooting, and working his dogs. Many a relaxing weekend was spent at the deer lease. He was an excellent dancer and could two-step the night away. A "design-on-the-fly guy, he could build or fix most anything. Jim loved his extended family and the Lord. Everyone he met was inspired by his positive attitude, strength, determination and his "Amens" in church. He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Austin Hospice or Highland Park Baptist Church. A memorial service, with reception to follow, will be held Tuesday May 11 at 2 pm at Highlnad Park Baptist Church.
