Dear Renee,
Having not lived in Austin for over 14 years now I had not heard of Eric's passing until today.
I am so saddened by the news as Eric was such a fine example of a Christian man willing to help others. He was so supportive of me at such a dark time in my life and I will never forget the love and support he and your father showed me.
My prayers are with you and your family. Please know there are many of us who truly honor Eric's memory. He was a great man.

Dear Mrs. Mitchell:
I just found out about Eric's passing today. I am shocked. I am praying for his family. I knew Eric in the Navy. We were like brothers and inseparable. I found some old photos tonight of the Navy days. You & your children will probably appreciate them. I read the articles about Eric today. I'd love to talk with you about him. I haven't seen him since the Navy. We got out on the same day. I've been trying to locate him for 30 years. He was a great brother.
With great love,respect, and prayers,
Pastor Ulis G. Redic

To Renee and Family: I am so saddened by the news of Eric's passing. Eric and I were good friends and all of us at Anderson, Wormley & Mitchell became family. I remember those days fondly.
Eric loved his family and he loved God. He always said he would move back to Atlanta and I'm glad he had the opportunity to do that.
My prayers are with you all during this time. May you find comfort in knowing how much Eric loved you and how much God loves you.
God keep you and the family in perfect peace.
Love you all,
Min. Sharian Brown-Taylor

May God bless the entire Mitchell Family during this time of bereavement. We had a lot of respect and admiration for Eric for the good fights that he fought and his unwillingness to back down when he felt he was right about the issues that affected not only African Americans but Austinites in general. God bless and may he rest in peace.

On behalf of the Austin Revitalization Authority, please accept our condolences. Eric Mitchell was a leader of Austin, a visionary and a friend to Austin’s Black community at time when few took action to challenge the status quo. The fruit of Mr. Mitchell’s labor can be seen today in the progress which has occurred in the East 11th and 12th Street corridors of East Austin. The legacy of Mr. Mitchell’s demand for self-empowerment will be realized for generations to come in Austin.
Thank you for the life you lead.

My Brother always had a tremendous love for his hometown here in Atlanta, our MOTHER, my sister and I, and our many, many relatives and friends. He stayed faithful to our family church throughout his life (Shiloh Missionary Baptist). He was the SHINING STAR in our families galaxy. I know that he IS Mom's favorite child and I love that. He IS my only and Favorite Brother and I feel as if a part of my life is gone that can never be replaced. My brother did not grow up poor, he had a vast wealth of Love, a very large, close, strong and committed faith-based family, and a very real belief in God. And with those treasures no man could ever be considered POOR. Eric we LOVE you, but,God is gathering his treasures home.

To Renee and Family: I will keep you lifted in prayer. I was shocked and deeply sadden to learn of the loss of my dear friend. Eric was like a brother to me. We spoke often and worked together on business projects, spending many tireless nights burning midnight oil cranking out business plans. The first business plan I ever wrote in the early 1980's was done at Eric's home office late one night.
He was also instrumental in encouraging Marcus, Homer and I to expand Catfish Station to Atlanta. We treasured Eric's friendship even when he moved to Atlanta we remained good friends, going out to dinner talking, even visiting and seeking out new business ventures.
I will miss him so much. I can remember him signing off each of our conversations with his signature good bye, "Peace Out!" I am signing out to you on this day; my brother. I will continue to keep your spirit alive in my heart and daily walk throughout this journey called life! Your living was not in vain. You touched every soul you reached out to along your journey.
Peace Out My Brother!

Eric, my brother I and all of those who came by you will sorrowfully grieve your untimely passing. You were the brightest light in a unnoticeably dim arena, you fought deligently, erect, true and proudly for those who would not be heard nor gazed upon. Regrettably we have lost you and all you stood and fought for. Rest peacefully my brother.

Renee and his family,
I am shocked and sad to learn of Eric's death. He was a friend who sought to understand city government, meeting with me on a regular basis for years. This was well before running in 1994. He was thoughtful, interested in doing what was right, being a good stewart of the people's money and seeking to be his own person, beholding to what he thought was right for Austin. I did not see him much after leaving office in 1991 or hardly while he was on the council, but I think that he did question, challenge and was marching to an independent beat. Frankly, we will always need that in City government!! I am truly sorry to read about your loss, our loss, tonight and send my heartfelt blessing to you in Georgia.

Eric Mitchell was a great person, friend, public servant, family man. As always, the last time that I saw him maybe 10 years ago, he acted like we had seen each other every day since we had met in the mid-1980's, getting started as young men with growing families and big futures. Who knows about the futures, but the friendships remained. Eric always lifted you up with his smile and good wishes. He was special and kind with a sense of goodness. I loved Eric Mitchell. If I had known he was ill, I would have called him to wish him well, but I know without a doubt he would have turned it around to make me and all his friends feel better. God bless the Mitchell family at their time of loss.

As a teenager, very engaged in the east Austin politically climate. I remember meeting Eric Mitchell for the first time. He stood out amongst all off the council members. He was passionate, articulate, a fighter and stood for what he believed in. Although he has physically left this place, his legacy will remain. And for those like me that truly understood his fight, he will live within all of us. May God provide comfort to his family during this difficult time.

Eric was a true public servant and friend to the Austin community. I especially appreciated his passion, conviction and courage as he fought for everything he believed in. Eric fought for the "African American Quality of Life" long before any study or research. He stood for doing the right things for the right reasons. May God bless and comfort Renee, the children, family and all who loved Eric. He will never be forgotten.

The Eric Mitchell I knew is hardly lying down to rest. I am sure he is right up front, even Almighty God himself is using Eric to challenge the evil trying to sneak into heaven.
I sure loved doing business with him back in the 90s. What a man!

To Renee & the Family:
There will never be a time that God does not want to hear from you as you go through this time of bereavement. However; remember, it is in your time of deepest need that you will find the depths to which the tenderness and grace of Christ can reach. Only Christ alone can and will bring you comfort and assurance.
Eric, fought a good fight - “you can surrender without a prayer, but you can not pray without surrender; you can fight and not ever win, but you never truly win without a fight.”
Eric is going to be missed for he was truly a warrior! Our prayers are with you.
