Obituary Condolences

Billy G. Lawler "Dewey" Billy G. Lawler, affectionately also known as "Dewey", 80, peacefully passed away at home in the company of his loving family & friends on July 14, 2011. Survivors include Bill's loving wife, Barbara, of 55 years; brother,Leslie; daughter, Lisa and her husband DJ; daughter, Laurie and her husband Kurt; seven grandchildren, Kenny, Valerie, Katy, Kirby, Kristin, Annie, and Sydney; two great grandchildren, Rhyder and Holden; and his beloved pets Maggie, Mac and Major. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Mattie and Aubrey Lawler; brother's Arnie and Loy Dean. Bill was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on September 14, 1930. After high school he joined the Navy to serve his country in the Korean War aboard the naval aircraft carrier, USS Essex. Upon leaving the Navy, Bill moved to Austin and soon began a meaningful and prosperous career with the Steck Company and their successor companies - Hart Graphics, Hart Forms and Services and Hart Information Services. A man of deep Christian faith, Barbara and he were very involved at Congress Avenue Baptist Church. Among Bill's many hobbies and interests include his numerous pets, writing, gardening, U.T. athletics, traveling and most important - his deep love and devotion to his family. A pertinent message that Bill shared in his writings is this, "One last thought. One thing we should all remember, separation is just temporary for those who know Jesus Christ as our Savior. Someday there will be a reunion to top all reunions. I am looking forward to that reunion. I am reminded of something I heard somewhere that stuck with me. Heaven was compared to a pet that comes in the door to a strange room and feels ill at ease, but all of a sudden he sees his Master and he is happy because as long as his Master is there, he is home. This describes all of us. When we walk into Heaven's entryway and see the Master there, then we will know we are home." A Service of Celebration will be held at Harrell Funeral Home, located at 4435 Frontier Trail, on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Chris Harrison, a close friend of Bill's, will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Town Lake Animal Shelter, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX 78703 or Lutheran Social Services of the South, P.O. Box 140767, Austin, TX 78714 to "The Bill Lawler Fund" to be used to care for those suffering from dementia related illnesses.
