Albert Thomas Cave, Jr. Albert Thomas Cave, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2012, in Austin, Texas. He had always been a great father, wonderful husband, and good friend with a deep love of the outdoors. Albert ("Al") was born on October 20, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, to the late Albert Thomas Cave and Doris Michels Cave. He was born a healthy bouncing baby with red hair. Many of his friends and associates later in life would call him, "Red". Although born in Iowa, Al spent most of his youth growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, in Harlingen, Texas. He attended Harlingen High School and graduated from there on May 27, 1955. In 1958, he joined the
United States Navy, and served aboard the U.S.S. Antietam until 1960. He remained in the US Navy Reserve for an additional two years, and received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy on March 11, 1964. It was during his time in the Navy that Al met the love of his life, Carolyn Phillips Prestwood. They met in New Orleans, Louisiana. They immediately fell in love and were later married on October 5th of 1960, in Brownsville, Texas. Their love never wavered and they remained together until "Woody" passed away from a long illness on March 11, 2010. Al always remained a faithful husband, even during those most difficult days of his wife's illness. He never left her side and was always there when she needed him. They truly loved each other dearly. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. Al always had a warm and generous spirit, and would help anyone in need without hesitation, asking nothing in return. He had a great sense of humor and laughter came to him easily. He was a man who truly enjoyed life. He was a good father who had two sons, Mark and Todd, and he along with his wife raised them with great honor. They both always put their sons' needs before their own. He was always surrounded by friends and had a natural keen intellect and curiosity. Al enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as simply loving life itself. He found great pleasures even in the simplest things on earth. Al would later go into business as a residential general contractor, in Longview, Texas. It was a career he loved greatly and the homes that he built stand as testimony to his creativity and determination to detail. Later, he would work with his son, Mark, in many independent business ventures. They were a great team who worked together for many years. They continued to work together even in the final years of Al's life. He was a creative businessman with a naturally keen business sense. The sons Mark and Todd would like to extend their thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and staff of the medical facilities of Travis County, Texas for their wonderful care, warmth, and support during the treatment of their father in his last days, and also extend their thanks to family and friends for their emotional support during those last trying days. Al is survived by his two sons, Mark Cave and Todd Cave, of Austin, Texas, as well as his brother, William Cave, of Plano, Texas, and his sister, Virginia Hayden, of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends and neighbors. A memorial service celebrating Al's life will be held at 1:00pm Friday November 16, 2012 at Austin-Peel and Son Chapel.
