Francis Rudolph Sandberg Obituary
Francis Rudolph Sandberg Francis Rudolph Sandberg was born on June 27, 1912 to Frank and Rebecca Sandberg on the Sandberg family farm in Georgetown, Texas. He died in San Marcos, Texas on March 13, 2013 . Francis was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1928 at St. John's Methodist Church in Georgetown. He later joined Palm Valley Lutheran Church where he has been a member for over 78 years. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1930, apprenticed at Davis Furniture Company (Funeral Home) before he joined 2 of his brothers living in San Antonio. There he worked at Smith Motor Sales in the Parts Department for about 10 years. In 1942 he joined the United States Army Air Corps, where he served stateside and attained the rank of Sergeant specializing in the Ordinance Department and Division of Motor Transportation . After World War II he studied to become a journeyman carpenter , worked for home building contractors in central Texas and as a carpenter, then supervisor in the maintenance department at the University of Texas in Austin until his retirement in 1974. In his retirement years he specialized in woodworking, making over 100 wooden clock cases and many other wooden items. On August 22, 1937 he married Edith Quick of Round Rock at Palm Valley Lutheran Church. Edith preceded him in death in 1970. They had one daughter, Patricia Sandberg Geiger . On February 2, 1973 Francis married Alice L. Kavanaugh who preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Martha Sandberg and Mabel Lindell, and four brothers: Carl, Burton, John and Tommy Sandberg. Francis is survived by his daughter Patricia and her husband Paul Geiger, one grandson, Paul Geiger III and his wife Christy, one granddaughter Pamela Geiger Brooks, seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Abigail, Gwendolyn and William Francis Geiger; and Aidan, Mason and Eva Brooks. Also, he is survived by Alice's two sons: Patrick Kavanaugh and wife Leilani, and Rigsby Kavanaugh and wife Lupe. One first cousin Ruth Sandberg Carlson and numerous nieces and nephews and their families also survive him. Memorials in his memory may be made to Palm Valley Lutheran Church, St. John's Methodist Church, or the . Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 in Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm Round Rock, Location. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Palm Valley Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m.
