Harland MOORE Obituary

MOORE, Harland Francis

Harland Francis Moore, 91 of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2013. He was born in Bend, Texas on September 20, 1922.

Harland graduated from DeLeon High School in 1940. He married the love of his life, Zuleam Wright, who he affectionately nicknamed "Zudie" on December 18, 1943. They were married 69 wonderful years.

Harland was a WWII veteran, having served in the Army Air Corp from November 10, 1942 until December 10, 1945. He joined the Austin Police Department on November 2, 1953, where he rose to the rank of Captain before retiring at the age of 56. He was responsible for starting the Austin Police Operation Blue Santa.

Harland was a faithful member of the Lord's Church in Dripping Springs where he served as an elder from 1973 to 1979. He had previously served as an elder for the Southside Church of Christ in Austin, Texas.

Harland was preceded in death by his father, Jarrell Moore; his mother, Jonnie Fry Moore; his brother, Jimmy Moore; and his grandson, J.N. Moore.

Harland is survived by his loving wife, Zuleam Moore; his son, Robert Moore and Mary Hays of Proctor, Texas; and his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Foy Forehand of Austin, Texas; his brother, Grady Moore and sister, Mary Crumley, both of Dripping Springs, Texas; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Dripping Springs Church of Christ.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday at the Dripping Springs Church of Christ. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Phillips Cemetery, Dripping Springs, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Southwest School of Bible Studies, 8900 Manchaca Road, Austin, Texas 78748 or to the American Diabetes Association at http://www.diabetes.org.
