TOCKER, Robert L.
Robert L. Tocker, 85, died peacefully in Austin, TX, on Monday, June 8, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Pearl Tocker; his sister Ann Silberstein; and his brothers, Phillip Tocker and Alfred Tocker. He is survived by his loving wife of 57+ years, Barbara Tocker; their four children, Darryl and his wife, Donna Tocker, Todd Tocker, Terry and his wife, Natalie Tocker, Gary Tocker; and his cousin, Sue (Lerman) Bilich all of Austin, Texas. Robert adored their grandchildren Rachel, Laura, Julia, Isaac, Ethan and Benjamin Tocker; and their great- granddaughter Addison.

Robert Tocker was born February 20, 1930 in Galveston, TX. Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and then served as an Asst. Battalion Surgeon in Korea in a forward aid station on the main line of resistance, a place infamously known as "Pork Chop Hill". After service, Robert Graduated from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston and had a successful dental practice in Austin.

Robert was very civic and community minded. He was among the founding members of the Austin Capital City Lions Club. Austin Capital City Lions was chartered on August 12, 1967, with 56 community minded men who were dedicated to the ideals of Lionism. The club has the distinction of being the first predominately Black-American club chartered in the State of Texas and the United States.

Over the past 20 years, Robert Tocker has served as Chairman of the Tocker Foundation. Under his leadership, he has supported Texas' rural public libraries, programs, content, furnishings and technology. In February 2014, he and his wife Barbara were honored recipients of the Doty Award, from the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Congregation Beth Israel, 3901 Shoal Creek. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Robert Tocker dedicated much of his time volunteering at predominately two community organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to one of these organizations, University of Texas Performing Arts Center or Dell Children's Medical Center Foundation of Central Texas.
