GREGORY, Sidney Taylor
Sidney Taylor Gregory passed peacefully surrounded by his family on July 22, 2015, in Round Rock, TX. A memorial celebrating his life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 2 PM at Ramsey's Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX.
Sid was born on September 18, 1944, in Abilene, TX, to Itha Eileen (Churchill) & Jefferson Miller Gregory. He lived in Cisco, TX, through his elementary school days then his family moved to Abilene, TX. He attended Abilene High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Abilene Cooper High School in 1962 where he was a member of the Vaqueros.
He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance in 1967. While in college, he was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity.
Directly after graduating from college, he married his high school and college sweetheart, Linda Kay Lucas on August 26, 1967.
Sid was recruited straight from college by Texas Instruments, where he and Linda moved to Dallas, TX, to begin their married life together. His time with Texas Instruments became a springboard for an opportunity with a new start-up company, SCS, in Garland, TX. After the birth of their two daughters, Sid and Linda moved to Abilene, TX, to provide a small town environment for their family. In Abilene, Sid was a serial entrepreneur with many business involvements from Gregory's Furniture Gallery, Butterfield Junction, STGCO and numerous other endeavors.
After their youngest daughter's graduation from high school, Sid and Linda moved to Austin, TX, where Sid became active in the alternative fuels and energy conservation industries. In 2002, Sid co-founded Energy Saving Strategies, an energy efficient lighting firm, where he was still active in the daily operations.
Sid's generous heart was evident to all that met him. While in Abilene, he felt drawn to volunteer at Ben Richey Boys Ranch, where they honored him for his contributions in assisting young boys. He loved to spontaneously load up his suburban with coats for children in Austin, donate toys at Christmas or assist anyone in need. Sid loved animals and supported many organizations with a special regard for the Ruidoso, NM, Animal Shelter.
During his nine year battle with cancer, Sid began wearing red socks to represent his hope in his fight. Sid and Linda gave red socks to his treatment team at MD Anderson after the doctors commented on Sid's signature red socks. He felt that any unity in his treatment would be beneficial.
Sid has many names that he answered to: Daddy, Big Daddy, Lid T Lopez, STG; but so many loved to call him a friend. He will be remembered but most importantly, he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Nixie Gregory Youngblood and husband, HL.
Sid is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Linda Kay Gregory; daughter Estee Gregory Rinehart and husband, Greg, of Cresson; daughter Elissa Gregory Boeshart and husband, Scott, of Cedar Park; granddaughter Shelby Taylor Rinehart of Dallas; grandson Clayton Gregory Rinehart of the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville; granddaughter Sydney Rae Boeshart and grandson Rhett Gregory Boeshart, both of Cedar Park; niece Vicki Youngblood Horton of Austin; special family Mark and Lisa Cox of Wylie; uncle Phil Kendrick and wife, Kay, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
