John Moore Obituary

MOORE, John H. John Howard Moore passed peacefully to heaven on April 25, 2017 at the age of 72. John was born on September 27, 1944 in Kerrville, TX. The family eventually settled in Midland, TX where John grew up with his two brothers. There John graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1963 and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. He then returned to Midland to work with his parents as a Realtor at Moore Realty. In 1971, John married Dianna of Wellman, TX and they soon moved to Austin where he continued his work as a Realtor. In Austin they raised their kids Scott, Russell, and Misty until they divorced in 1994. John loved people and was always ready for a good time. He enjoyed both watching and playing sports. Some of his favorites included running the Capitol 10K as well as playing softball and racquetball. He served on the Board of Trustees at the Northwest YMCA for over 10 years and was proud to help raise funds for the Partner in Youth program. Because he looked the part and fit the suit well, he enjoyed being Santa for the YMCA children. He also enjoyed being Santa for the children at the Battle for the Cure, an organization for children with cancer. He had a passion for real estate and viewed his role as a Realtor as a way to help others find a loving place to live, rest, or raise a family. In 2017, he was planning to celebrate his 50th year working in real estate. On April 1, 2017 John and his long-time friend and sweetheart, Priscilla (Prissy), celebrated their 22nd anniversary together with the exchange of their wedding vows in the presence of family and friends. Together they enjoyed travelling, going on dates to movies, and spending quality time with their children, step-children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. One of John's greatest joys was to watch his grandsons play baseball in Texas, travel to California to watch his granddaughters dance in ballet, and spend time playing games with his youngest grandson. John and Prissy loved to country dance and kept the dance floors warm until health issues prevented him from continuing. During the last two years of John's life, he fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He overcame many obstacles and surprised his doctors and all of us by surpassing expected outcomes. He survived a successful bone marrow transplant and was in remission for a year before the cancer returned. John was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Charles "Red" and Jean, and his oldest brother, Charles, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, his brother Eric and wife Beth, his sister-in-law Betty, his daughter and husband, Misty and Andrew, his son and wife, Russell and Kim, and his oldest son, Scott. He is also survived by his step-children, Phillip and Christi and her husband Collin. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren; Cade, Cole, Ashley, Kylie and Ryan as well as three step-grandchildren; Gracen, Aubrey, and Courtney. John is also survived by his nephews, Eric and Trey, and nieces, Kim and Heidi. A memorial service and celebration of John's life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. Inurnment in the Bethany Columbarium and Prayer Garden and a reception will follow the service. Donations may be made on John's behalf to Battle for a Cure (https://battle4acure.accountsupport.com/give) or the Austin Northwest YMCA Partner in Youth program (https://www.austinymca.org/donate).

John was a great friend and a beloved man. His kindness was given to hundreds of people. His love for Prissy remained constant, and kept his heart light going through the tough times. My admiration of John has come through working with him, to being a friend who felt just like family to me. He is missed and will always be an inspiration to all who were blessed to be near him.

Prissy and I go back years prior to her retirement as colleagues at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. I am deeply saddened that her committed relationship with John ended in his passing, for I know she was deeply committed and loving of him.
