Stephen Morrow Obituary

Stephen Michael Morrow passed away January 23, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane after his 46- year struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Born in Vancouver on March 28, 1948, Steve (as his loved ones called him) was a big-hearted jokester who loved mechanics, music, woodworking, photography and jokes. Steve was a longtime resident of the Colville area. His parents, Harry and Roberta Morrow, also lived in Colville until their passing.

Steve's family moved to Wenatchee when he was 10-years-old. It was there that Steve became an active member of the Wenatchee Youth Circus (from 1963 thru 1968).

In 1969, faced with the military draft, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably from 1968 to 1971, including a year as a front line artilleryman in the 25th Infantry Division, known as "Tropic Lightning, out of Boutry, Vietnam. Their insignia looked like a strawberry with a lightning bolt in it.

Steve was a very brave man, who, at the age of 19, found himself in a (daily) life and death struggle. He had to kill people during the night and then pick up their body parts during the day. His natural gentle nature just could not cope with that reality and he never recovered from the experience.

For his loyal service to our country, Steve was awarded four medals, as follows: 1) The National Defense Service medal; 2) the Vietnam Service medal; 3) the Vietnam Campaign medal with the '60's Device; 4) the Bronze Service Star and; 5) the Army Recommendation Medal.

Steve is survived by his three sisters, Dana Mooney; Cynthia Siemon and Patricia Kahl, as well as his younger brother, Douglas Morrow.

Steve was deeply loved and admired by his family, as well as by all those who knew him and are thankful that he gave his heart to Christ during his last days on this Earth.

Funeral service for Steve will be held at the Colville Mountain View Cemetery on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m., where Steve will be laid to rest next to his parents. Steve will be given full military honors, with a gun salute and flag folding ceremony, with Cynthia Siemon leading the prayers.

Those who wish more information may contact Patti (Morrow) Kahl, at (509) 443-6465.
